Follow-up OPINION piece post may be indefinitely delayed...or not

Some of you may remember this post. I had planned to do a follow-up about pros whose work I have less strong opinions, but for many reasons (including blogging safety) I decided against it...

Specifically, I remember what happened in the comments of this post and the fact that M to the A to the R to the K to the SPACEBAR to the W to the A to the I to the D googles his own name once every hour for about 21 hours of out every 24. I haven’t even included his name in the labels to this post, because he doesn’t just use Google. No, he whose name shall not be typed uses other search engines that use other algorithms that rank web pages differently.

Wait-a-minute! Maybe it wasn’t the brightest idea to include that link in this post. AARRRGGGHHH!!!!

  1. Whoa....

Reading comments like that is what makes me want to curl up into a fetal position and never draw anything ever again. Granted, said writer is in the big leagues, so the artists should know what they're doing by now.

I really liked the one guy (Ben Avery) who takes inexperienced artists under his wing and takes the time to get to know them and possibly do a little hand-holding. I rather like that approach.

  2. Yes, hand-holding is preferred. It should be like a bit of on-the-job training/coaching in the beginning and then a mentorship relationship down the line.

Not to judge a book by its cover, but when you see said Big league Writer's photo that type of overkill reaction is to be expected: He always looks ANGRY. Real daggers from his eyes...I mean, in a publicity photo?!

I mean most big-time writers / artists try to look friendly or goofy or mysterious, but boiling anger? He should take his own advice: Chill...

  3. lol. I have yet to find that picture. Give me time, though, and I probably will..... Angry fanboys (and writers) kind of ruin comics for me. I mean, shouldn't comics be fun?
